Gateway Drag: Paris is Burning

On this episode of Gateway Drag, we talk to Bob TheDragQueen about "Paris Is Burning," the landmark 1990 documentary that explored the "Golden Age" of New York City drag balls. Focused on the lives of the gay and transgender community, the film reveals the aspirations and struggles of a subculture marginalized by mainstream. It was only at night that these people could bring their fantasies to life by walking in the balls dressed as the very people who pushed them to the fringes of society.

Bob TheDragQueen, one of the hardest-working queens in New York, returns to discuss everything from her own personal experience of the film to the controversy surrounding the film and the exploitation of the individuals featured. If you haven't seen it, our kiki is the perfect introduction to the now iconic film.
